Easy setup for my business

I used Ownr to set up my Sole Proprietorship Registration a few weeks ago. Honestly, I was a bit nervous about all the paperwork, but their site made it really straightforward. It walked me through everything and didn't ask a bunch of confusing legal questions. The whole process was pretty quick, and I got my registration confirmation without any fuss. It definitely felt less intimidating than I thought it would be, which was a huge relief for a new business owner like me.

Reliable for annual filings

I've been using Ownr for my business's Corporate Compliance Tools and Annual Filings for about two years now. This latest Annual Filing was just as easy as the ones before. I appreciate how consistent their platform is; it's always where I expect things to be. I've tried a few other services before, but Ownr just makes it simple to keep everything up to date without a lot of headaches. That reliability is why I keep coming back for these essential tasks every year.

Decent value, small hiccup

I decided to go with Ownr for my Ontario Incorporation earlier this year. The pricing seemed reasonable compared to a lawyer, and it included the Digital Minute Book which was a plus. The initial setup was mostly fine, pretty clear instructions. However, when I needed to do a Director Change a month later, I found the interface for that specific task a little less intuitive than the initial incorporation process. It took a bit of digging to find where to update it properly. Overall, it's a good service for the price point, especially for basic needs, but some of the follow-up features could use a slight refinement in user-friendliness.

Looking at their pricing, is the government filing fee included in what Ownr charges, or is that extra?

P Priya Reyes 2 months ago
Nah, it's usually separate. Ownr charges their fee for the service, and then you'll also see the government filing fee tacked on top. It's pretty clear when you go through the checkout process though.

Yeah, the government fee is an extra cost. Ownr's fee covers their platform and services, not what the government charges to register your business.

I'm with RBC, heard there's some kind of cash back offer for using Ownr. How do I actually get that? Is it automatic or do I need a code?

E Emma 1 month ago
Mine was automatic. Just make sure you're signing up through the RBC offer link or connecting your account properly. I think it shows up on your RBC statement after a bit.

You usually just link your RBC business account during the Ownr signup process. It's not a coupon code, more like a direct integration. The cash back gets deposited later, took a few weeks for me.

Is Ownr legit for setting up a business? Or should I just go with a lawyer instead? Kinda worried about messing up legal stuff.

M Megan P. 2 months ago
It's legit. Used them for my sole proprietorship, everything was filed correctly and got my master business license super fast. They handle the basic stuff well.

Ownr is good for standard incorporations. If you have really complex shareholder agreements or specific legal needs, a lawyer is better. But for most small businesses, Ownr is perfectly fine and way cheaper. They're owned by RBC, so it's not some fly-by-night operation.

Hey, thinking of using Ownr for my new side hustle. Anyone know how long it takes to actually get incorporated? Like, after I fill everything out on their site?

I Ivy 2 months ago
I did mine last year, a federal incorporation. Took about 3-5 business days for everything to be official, if I remember right. They send you emails at each step.

Yeah, it's pretty quick. Mine was like 4 days. Much faster than dealing with government sites directly, lol.
